INFORMATION

Visa

If the visa is required (please, see the conditions for entry to Russia at the web-site of the embassy of Russia in your country), the Baikal Institute of Nature Management SB RAS provides the participants of the conference with the invitation letter needed for Russian visa processing.

The participants are required to fill in a visa support letter and sent the copy of the foreign passport. The visa support letter must include: all the passport data (number, date of issue, expiration date), date of birth, place of birth, citizenship, gender, full name, place of employment, occupation – job position, aim of the visit.

NOTE: Passport expiration date must be at least 6 months before the end of your trip to the Russian Federation.


Venue

The Republic of Buryatia is a subject of the Russian Federation and is part of the Far Eastern Federal District. Ulan-Ude is the administrative-economic and cultural center of the republic. The distance by rail from Ulan-Ude to Moscow is 5519 km, and to the Pacific Ocean - 3,500 km. Within the Republic there is a large part (about 60% of the coastline) of Lake Baikal - the deepest freshwater lake in the world. The length of Lake Baikal is 636 km., width is from 25 to 79 km. The total length of the Baikal coastline is 2100 km, and the total area of water is 31.5 thousand square meters. The maximum depth is 1637 m.; the average depth is 730 m. Lake Baikal is the natural reservoir of the fifth part of the world's fresh water supply of the highest quality. The lake has 2500 different species of animals and fish, 250 of which are endemic.

International Ecological Educational Centre (IEEC) “Istomino” is owned and run by the Baikal Institute of Nature Management of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Republic of Buryatia, Ulan-Ude, Russia. It was established in 2001 in the village of Istomino on the shore of Lake Baikal, in the Selenga River Delta at the initiative of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It is a unique natural site for scientists who study the lake Baikal ecosystem and the fundamental problems of sustainable development of the World Natural Heritage Site and solution of environmental problems. http://www.binm.ru/istomino/en/

First, all the participants of the conference arrive to Ulan-Ude, then departure to the International Ecological Educational Centre in Istomino (145 km from Ulan-Ude).


Accomodation in Ulan-Ude

Participants are kindly requested to make own hotel reservations for their stay in Ulan-Ude. A list of hotels and hostels advised for the participants is following:

 

Transport

1. From the airport "Baikal" to the city center (bus stop "Ploshad Sovetov"), where the hotels "Buryatia" and "Barguzin" are located, take a bus number 28 and route minibuses № 55 and № 77 (travel cost is 30 rubles). A taxi ride from the airport "Baikal" to the hotel "Buryatia" will cost at least 350 rubles, excluding waiting and luggage (taxi phones: 200-100, 200-000, 666-666, city code - 3012). The public transport stop is located 800 meters from the airport building.

2. From the railway station to the bus stop "Ploshad Sovetov" there are public mini bus taxis № 4, №23, №36 (travel cost is 20 rubles). A taxi ride from the railway station to the "Ploshad Sovetov" bus stop will cost at least 150 rubles.

The opening of the conference and the hearing of the plenary reports will take place in the building of the Baikal Institute of Nature Management SB RAS (6 Sakhyanovoy st., bus stop “Buryat Scientific Center”, route taxis and buses: № 2,29,30,36,21,71,70 , 59; tram number 4).

The transport from Ulan-Ude to Istomino will be provided by the organizing committee of the conference.


Tour

The program of the conference includes an excursion to the Buddhist Temple Ivolginsky Datsan. It is the residence of the Buddhist Traditional Sangha of Russia, as well as that of Pandido Khambo lama, the head of the Russian Buddhists.
